Further to our earlier
invitation to participate we would like to remind all member chambers that the
closing date for policy resolutions is Monday March 23.
We would like to thank those
chambers who have already provided us with resolutions. We would ask that all
chambers who are looking to draft resolutions contact me and let me know what
issues they are working on so we can ensure that there is no overlap or duplication
and also to provide assistance is required.
If you have any questions regarding
the process, or the issues you are working on please do not hesitate to contact
me and I will be happy to help.
Regards
Jon

Subject: BC CHAMBER POLICY PROCESS - INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
Importance: High
The BC Chamber
is pleased to request the participation of member chambers in the policy
development process which will culminate in the 2009 BC Chamber AGM. It is
critically important that member chambers are fully engaged in ensuring the
issues of concern to their members are brought forward to the BC Chamber policy
development process.
With an economy
facing unprecedented challenges in the face of the global economic crisis
government is being called on to play a fundamental role in making the investments
and decisions that will ensure BC is well placed to overcome these
difficulties.
Further to this BC will be facing
a provincial election on May 12, 2009. As such, the resolutions approved at the
2009 AGM will be the first comprehensive platform presented to the provincial
government.
We are therefore asking member
chambers to participate in the following ways;
Policy Priority Areas
In keeping with our commitment we
are asking member chambers to provide us direction on whether our current
policy priority areas still reflect the priorities of your members.
To provide this input we are
asking member chambers to complete the attached survey form (please note, we
will only accept one survey response per member chamber) and return it to the
chamber no later than Monday January 5, 2009.
Policy Development
The cornerstone of the BC Chamber
advocacy efforts is the BC Chamber Policy and Positions Manual. The strength of
this manual is the understanding that the policy statement are derived from the
direct input of local chambers. This has led to a growing realization by the
media, public and by government that The Chamber is the organization best able
to continue to offer real solutions to real challenges facing business across
the province. We are therefore asking member chambers to identify the issues of
importance to their member and develop policy resolutions around these areas.
The closing date for
resolutions is March 23, 2009.
As the largest and broadest based
business organization in the province we are uniquely positioned to lead the
business community in bringing a vision for the future to government. The
government of BC depends on the BC Chamber to act as the voice of
business. Now is the time to use this voice to build a foundation for a
diverse economic base that can deliver sustainable, long term economic growth
We urge all
chambers to become involved in this important element of our work. Please
review carefully this background information and, should you have any further
questions or would like any assistance, guidance, or simply require further
information, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to help.
